GDC Explorer With William Probe # 6 (EXP23/QW6)

The GDC Explorer With William Probe # 6 (EXP23/QW6) is a dental instrument used by dental professionals for dental examinations and assessments. It typically consists of an explorer and a Williams periodontal probe, both combined into one handheld tool. This instrument is designed to help dentists and dental hygienists perform comprehensive oral examinations, detect dental issues, assess periodontal health, and identify areas of concern.

Explorer on one side: The dental explorer is used with its sharp point to enhance tactile sensation and to determine the presence of tooth decay on tooth enamel.

William Probe on the other side: Laser Markings  mm1-2-3-5-7-8-9-10 to measure pocket depths around a tooth in order to establish the state of health of the periodontium with its long, thin, and blunted tip. There are markings inscribed onto the head of the instrument for accuracy and readability.

Direction to use :-

  • Preparation: Ensure that the instrument is clean and sterilized before use.
  • Patient Positioning: Position the patient comfortably in the dental chair with good lighting for clear visibility during the examination.
  • Examination: Hold the GDC Explorer With William Probe in your dominant hand. The explorer tip is usually located at the top end of the instrument, and the Williams periodontal probe markings are at the opposite end.
  • Explorer Function: a. To examine tooth surfaces: Gently pass the explorer tip over the tooth surfaces, feeling for any irregularities, roughness, or areas of decay (cavities). The explorer’s pointed tip helps in detecting dental caries or cracks in the tooth enamel. b. Use a light touch: Apply light pressure while using the explorer to avoid causing discomfort or damage to the tooth enamel or gum tissues.
  • Williams Periodontal Probe Function: a. Measurement of gum pocket depth: To assess periodontal health, insert the Williams probe gently into the space between the gum and the tooth (the periodontal pocket) at a 45-degree angle to the tooth surface. b. Read the measurements: The Williams probe is calibrated with millimeter markings. As you insert the probe, note the depth of the gum pocket in millimeters. This measurement indicates the health of the gum attachment to the tooth and helps identify signs of gum disease (periodontal disease).
  • Record Findings: During the examination, record any abnormalities, dental caries, or periodontal measurements on the patient’s dental chart for reference and future treatment planning.
  • Rinse and Sterilize: After use, rinse the GDC Explorer With William Probe thoroughly to remove any debris. Follow the appropriate sterilization procedures to ensure the instrument’s cleanliness and hygiene for the next use.
  • Patient Education: Share the examination findings with the patient, discuss any concerns, and recommend appropriate treatment or follow-up care based on the examination results.
