GDC Kirkland Knives KK15/16
The GDC Kirkland Double-End Knife is a periodontal instrument used for various procedures such as gingivectomy or gingivoplasty. It is particularly effective in the retro-molar region of the mouth. This instrument is designed for making initial bevel incisions, which are used to remove or recontour soft tissue in the oral cavity. It is also useful for excising interproximal tissue. The knife features pointed kidney-shaped blades, which are specifically designed for making gingivectomy bevel incisions. These bevel incisions are made at an angle to create a sloping edge, facilitating better access and visibility during the procedure. The pointed tip of the blade allows for precise and controlled cutting.
• Used to make incisions in gingival and periodontal pockets.
Direction to use :-
- Sterilize the instrument: Before use, ensure that the Kirkland Double-End Knife is properly sterilized according to the recommended guidelines for infection control.
- Prepare the patient: Ensure the patient is comfortably positioned in the dental chair, with adequate lighting and suction available. Administer local anesthesia as needed.
- Select the appropriate end: The Kirkland Double-End Knife has two ends with different blade shapes. Determine which end is most suitable for the specific procedure you are performing.
- Grasp the handle: Hold the instrument in a pen-like grip, with a firm but comfortable grasp on the handle. Ensure your fingers are positioned securely to maintain control and precision during the procedure.
- Visualize the target area: Properly retract the soft tissue to achieve optimal visibility of the area where the incision will be made. This may involve the use of a mouth mirror or other retractors.
- Position the blade: Orient the blade of the Kirkland Double-End Knife parallel to the tooth surface or gingival margin, depending on the desired incision.
- Make the incision: With controlled and precise movements, apply gentle pressure and begin the incision. Follow the specific technique appropriate for the procedure, such as a bevel incision or tissue removal.
- Maintain control: Throughout the procedure, maintain a steady hand and control over the knife. Make smooth, deliberate motions to ensure accuracy and minimize trauma to the surrounding tissues.
- Rinse and inspect: Periodically rinse the knife and inspect the blade for any tissue debris or buildup. Clean the blade as needed to maintain optimal cutting efficiency.
- Complete the procedure: Continue with the necessary steps for the specific periodontal procedure you are performing, using the Kirkland Double-End Knife as required. Follow proper surgical protocols and techniques.
