GDC CPITN Screening WHO Probe PCP11.5B

The GDC Single End Probes Screening Probe (WHO Probe) (Pcp11.5b) is a dental instrument used for periodontal screening and assessment. It is designed based on the World Health Organization (WHO) probe design, which is recognized for its effectiveness in detecting periodontal diseases. The probe features a single-ended, slender tip with a rounded ball-shaped end. The #6 marking on the probe indicates the millimeter measurements, allowing for an accurate depth assessment of periodontal pockets and gum recession. The Screening probe has a 0.5 mm ball at the tip and a color-coded area 3.5 to 5.5 mm from the tip. It has markings mm 3.5-5.5-8.5-11.5. The ball at the end of the probe is intended to enhance patient comfort and assist in detecting overhanging margins and subgingival calculus.

Laser Markings: mm3,5-5,5-8,5-11,5 To measure pocket depths around a tooth in order to establish the state of health of the periodontium with its long, thin, and blunted tip.

There are markings inscribed onto the head of the instrument for accuracy and readability.

Direction to use :-

  • Ensure that the probe is clean and sterilized before use. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper cleaning and sterilization procedures.
  • Put on appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and a face mask, to maintain a sterile environment.
  • Hold the probe in a pencil grip, with your index finger resting on the handle and your thumb supporting the instrument.
  • Position the rounded ball-shaped tip of the probe near the area to be screened, such as the gingival sulcus or periodontal pocket.
  • Gently insert the probe into the sulcus or pocket, maintaining a light and controlled pressure. Move the probe along the gumline, ensuring it reaches the base of each pocket being assessed.
  • Assess the presence of bleeding or inflammation in the gums by observing any signs of bleeding or redness upon contact with the probe. Take note of the areas where bleeding or inflammation is detected.
  • Perform a thorough screening by examining multiple sites within each tooth’s sulcus or pocket. Take note of any abnormal findings or areas of concern.
  • Record the findings of the screening on a periodontal chart or patient record, noting the presence of bleeding or inflammation, as well as any other observations.
  • After completing the screening, carefully remove the probe from the sulcus or pocket, ensuring minimal trauma to the surrounding tissues.
  • Thoroughly clean and sterilize the probe using appropriate methods, following the manufacturer’s instructions, before and after each use.
